4 killed, minor girl critical as SUV rams into truck
KANPUR, May 15 -- Four people were killed and a 12-year-old girl was critically injured after an SUV rammed into the rear-end of a truck carrying gas cylinders on the Bundelkhand expressway in Banda district on Thursday morning, police said.
The accident took place near chainage number 50 under the Dehat Kotwali police station area. According to police, the SUV was travelling at high speed when it crashed into the truck from behind.
The SUV was carrying five people from Sagri area of Azamgarh district. The driver, Ajit Vishwakarma, 35, and another occupant died on the spot. Three others were rushed to the district hospital, where two women later succumbed to injuries.
The deceased were identified as Chandravati, 40, Prem Shila, 52 and Nisha, 36. Riya, 12, sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment.
SP Banda Palash Bansal said preliminary investigation suggested the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel.
"Prima facie, it appears that the driver dozed off, due to which the Scorpio went and hit the DCM truck from behind," Bansal said.htc...
