4 boys drown in river after cricket match
KANPUR, May 18 -- Four teenage boys drowned in the Rind river in Fatehpur district on Sunday after they ventured into deep water while bathing following a local cricket match, police said.
The victims identified as Haseebuddin, Shahid, Ansh and Shan, aged between 15 and 17 years, all from Tapni village under Laloli police station area, were among a group of nine boys who had travelled to Kunhua Ka Dera village to play a match earlier in the day.
According to police, six of them entered the river while returning home. Four were swept into deeper water and began struggling to stay afloat. Two others with them tried to pull them out but failed before raising the alarm.
Locals joined the search after the Laloli police reached the spot. The bodies of all four boys were later recovered. Laloli police station house officer Pramod Kumar Rao said the bodies had been sent for post-mortem examination. The two other youths managed to escape....
