PRAYAGRAJ, July 15 -- A 35-year-old man was found dead in a water-filled excavation pit near a pond in Pratapgarh district on Tuesday, a day after he went missing from his home. Police suspect he accidentally drowned after entering pit, possibly while taking a bath. The deceased was identified as Dhirendra Gautam, a resident of Ahladganj village under Maheshganj police station limits. According to police, Dhirendra left his house around 10 am on Monday but failed to return. Family said he was mentally unstable and often wandered around the locality, so they did not immediately raise an alarm. His body was spotted on Tuesday morning by villagers. Police reached the spot, retrieved the body. His clothes and slippers were found on the edge of the pit, leading police to suspect that he had entered the water to bathe but drowned.
