Meerut, Aug. 27 -- Several people were detained after activists of a group clashed with police over the denial of permission to celebrate the birth anniversary of Pratihara emperor Mihir Bhoj in Meerut on Tuesday. The agitation led to the arrest of Pathik Sena national president Mukhiya Gurjar, along with the detention of 35 of his supporters in Meerut and Mawana. According to police, Mukhiya Gurjar managed to dodge security and reached the programme venue in a car along with his supporters. When police tried to stop the vehicle, the driver refused to halt, prompting officers to surround the car. A passenger autorickshaw was forcibly parked in front of the vehicle, creating panic among those inside. In the commotion, police broke into the car and arrested Mukhiya Gurjar.His supporters resisted the arrest, leading to a scuffle with police before he was taken to the police lines for questioning. The birth anniversary celebrations had been planned at two locations-Commissionary Park in Meerut and Mawana-by Pathik Sena. However, the district administration denied permission for the events. Despite this, Gurjar and his supporters insisted on holding the programme.Police officials said they repeatedly asked the group to disperse, citing a lack of permission, but the protesters refused. Eventually, police moved in and detained Gurjar along with dozens of others for creating disorder.
