LUCKNOW, Sept. 18 -- With 30 entities in Uttar Pradesh registering for the Unique Identification Authority of India's (UIDAI) Offline Verification Seeking Entity (OVSE) service, people may no longer need to repeatedly submit physical Aadhaar copies for identity verification at participating organisations. The system allows people to voluntarily share digitally verifiable Aadhaar credentials with an organisation, which can then check the authenticity of the information without connecting to UIDAI's Central Identities Data Repository (CIDR) in real time. The move can make several everyday verification processes more convenient for people, particularly during customer onboarding, employee verification, admissions, examinations, hotel stays, financial services and other lawful identity-check requirements. Prashant Kumar Singh, deputy director general, UIDAI, Lucknow regional office, said under the OVSE framework, the organisation verifies digitally signed Aadhaar information shared by the individual. UIDAI said the Aadhaar holder's consent remains central to the process. For residents, the system can reduce dependence on photocopies and physical document handling. Organisations can also reduce the manual effort involved in collecting, storing and verifying paper documents. UIDAI said the framework has seen growing adoption across the country.
