PRAYAGRAJ, April 26 -- Three youths were seriously injured in a knife attack while bathing in a pond in the Patti area of Pratapgarh on Saturday afternoon, triggering panic and tension in the locality. The incident took place around 3:30 pm when Vijay Yadav, 29, along with Shivam Yadav, 22, and Vijay Kumar alias Goli, 23-- all residents of the same village--went to the village pond to bathe. According to eyewitnesses, Vijay Yadav was seated on a wooden platform near the pond, while Shivam and Goli were bathing along with other villagers. Meanwhile, a local youth accompanied by two others passed near the pond and suddenly attacked Vijay Yadav with a knife. When Shivam and Goli rushed out of the pond to help, the attacker assaulted them as well before fleeing the scene. In the attack, Vijay Yadav sustained a serious stab wound to the abdomen. Shivam Yadav suffered injuries to the abdomen, chest and back, while Vijay Kumar's hand was seriously injured. The injured youths were rushed to the Community Health Centre in Patti, and later all were referred to the District Medical College for further treatment. Police sources said the attack is believed to be the result of a personal rivalry. The accused is reportedly a history-sheeter and has previously been booked under the Gangsters Act. Police have launched a search for the attacker and said further action will be taken based on the victims' statements. A 28-year-old man was found hanging inside his house in Kashiya Paschim village under Kokhraj police station limits of Kaushambi on Saturday morning. According to family members, the deceased had a shop on the outskirts of the village. On Friday night, he had dinner and went to his room to sleep as usual. On Saturday morning, when relatives checked on him, they found him hanging from a ceiling fan using a noose. Police were informed and reached the scene soon after. Following preliminary investigations, the body was sent for post-mortem examination. The deceased's father told police that his son had been suffering from mental health issues and was undergoing treatment from a psychiatrist. DSP Chail, Satyendra Tiwari, said the incident is being treated as a suicide. He added that if the family submits a written complaint alleging any suspicious circumstances, a detailed investigation will be carried. A woman from Bhadwa village located within the Utraon police station area in Prayagraj, died on Friday night while undergoing treatment after consuming vermilion the preceding night. In connection with this incident, the woman's parental family has leveled allegations of murder. Acting on a written complaint filed by the deceased's father, the police have registered a case against two individuals-including the husband-and have initiated legal proceedings. Rajmani, a resident of Itwa village under the Aurai police station jurisdiction in Bhadohi district, had arranged his daughter's marriage in December 2022. The wedding, conducted under the CM Mass Marriage Scheme at the Aurai Block in Bhadohi district, united the woman with Ankit, a resident of Bhadwa village within the Utraon police station area. The deceased's father has alleged that after the marriage, the mother-in-law and husband would frequently harass his daughter over demands for dowry. A 50-year-old farmer was killed late Friday evening after being run over by a speeding truck near Andawan village under Kokhraj police station limits in Kaushambi. The victim succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment. The deceased has been identified as Shyamlal, a resident of Bhatpurwa village. According to police, Shyamlal was walking towards Andawan on Friday night for some work. While attempting to cross the road, a speeding truck hit him and ran him over before fleeing the scene....
