3 women killed as tractor-trolley overturns on Prayagraj-Rewa highway
PRAYAGRAJ, Aug. 22 -- The Prayagraj-Rewa National Highway witnessed a fatal accident on Friday morning when a tractor-trolley carrying around 30 farm labourers overturned while its driver tried to save a motorcyclist who had fallen after his bike got stuck in the damaged stretch.
Three women labourers were killed and 20 others, including the tractor driver, were injured in the accident near the Surwal Sahni turn under Bara police station in the trans-Yamuna area. Two women died on the spot, while another succumbed to her injuries during treatment at Colvin Hospital, police said.
The deceased were identified as Kamla Devi, 50, wife of Ram Murat, Kareena, 17, daughter of Bharat, and Manorama, 18, daughter of Raju.
According to police, farmer Ashok Singh of Surwal Sahni village was taking around 30 labourers from Sonra Harro village to his fields at around 10 am for paddy transplantation. A local resident, Ankit Singh, was riding a motorcycle ahead of the tractor-trolley.
Near the Surwal Sahni turn, Ankit's motorcycle got stuck in a deep crack at a joint on the highway and overturned. In an attempt to save the motorcyclist, Ashok lost control of the tractor-trolley, which hit the divider and overturned.Several labourers were trapped under the overturned trolley, triggering panic at the spot. Local residents rushed to the accident site and, with the help of police, pulled out the trapped labourers and shifted the injured to hospitals.
The injured were identified as tractor driver Ashok Singh and labourers Rahul, Simran, Rakesh Kumar, Sudha, Ashoka Devi, Sandeep, Aanchal, Rohit, Sita, Ramlal, Akash, Satish, Monu, Vinita, Lalji, Radha, Santosh, Dilip and Raghuraj.
DCP (Trans-Yamuna) Vivek Chandra Yadav, ACP Bara Ved Vyas Mishra, Shankargarh station house officer Sushil Dwivedi and Naribari police outpost in-charge Amit Kumar reached the spot with police personnel....
