3 minors among 6 drown in Cauvery
BENGALURU, April 20 -- Six people, including three minors, died after being swept away by strong currents in the Cauvery River in Karnataka's Mysuru district on Sunday, police said. According to police, the victims were part of an eight-member group that had travelled to a nearby dargah for Hazrat Khadar Lingavalli Urs. According to police, the group later went to the river near Arkeshwara temple in KR Nagar taluk, where all eight entered the water and were caught in the current. Local residents who heard cries for help attempted a rescue. Mysuru superintendent of police Mallikarjun Baladandi said, "Out of the eight persons who entered the river, two were rescued by locals and admitted to hospital. Unfortunately, six persons lost their lives." The deceased were identified as Yasin (23), Fathim (30), Humayun (7), Nehan (19) and Aleem (13) and Umeer (5). Bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, police said, adding that the probe is underway. Chief minister Siddaramaiah announced financial assistance of Rs.5 lakh for each of the victims' families....
