Haridwar/Dehradun, Aug. 23 -- Three men were killed and six others injured after four motorcycles collided on the Kanwar stretch along the Ganga canal in Haridwar district's Kaliyar area on Friday night, police said. According to police, the accident took place on the Kaliyar road, popularly known as the Kanwar Patri, amid poor visibility due to darkness and rain. Two motorcycles travelling in opposite directions collided head-on, following which two other bikes coming from behind rammed into the vehicles, resulting in the deaths of three men and injuries to six others. "As soon as information about the accident was received, police teams from Civil Lines and Kaliyar police stations reached the spot and launched a rescue operation. Three youths died, while six others were injured. Post-mortem examinations of the deceased have been conducted and our further legal formalities are underway," said superintendent of police (SP), rural, SC Suyal. The deceased were identified as Ayan, 18, a resident of Bijauli; Raju Singh, 24, of Rehmatpur; and Rajeev Singh, 22, of Saharanpur, police said. Of the six injured, Aditya Chandra, 24, a resident of Khanjanpur, was critically injured. He was referred by doctors at Roorkee Civil Hospital to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Rishikesh, for further treatment. It came days after four people were killed and three others injured after an Eeco van crashed into a commercial vehicle parked on the roadside near Manimai temple on the Haridwar highway in Doiwala of Dehradun on Wednesday. In a separate incident, a 26-year-old woman died and another was injured after a car allegedly rammed into a scooter and a motorcycle parked along Canal Road in Dehradun, police said. The accident took place around 12.45 am on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday. A police team reached the spot after receiving information through emergency number 112 and found a damaged Hyundai i20 and two damaged two-wheelers - a scooter and a motorcycle. SSP Pramendra Dobhal said, "The car driver,while travelling from Kathbangla towards Canal Road lost control after the vehicle's brakes failed and crashed into the two vehicles parked on the roadside. Two women riding the two-wheelers sustained injuries and were taken to hospital." Naina Rajput, 26, a resident of Doiwala, died during treatment at Max Hospital, police said. The other injured woman, Nidhi Kashyap, is undergoing treatment at Doon Hospital. Police detained the car driver, Sumit Yadav, 20, and his associate Hashim, 24, residents of Rajpur and later arrested them. "We have seized the car. A case has been against the accused under relevant sections and our investigation into the matter is underway," the SSP said....
