Dehradun, Dec. 16 -- Three alleged inter-state drug smugglers were arrested near the Nepal border in Banbasa of Champawat district, an officer of the special task force (STF) of state police said on Monday, adding that around 800 grams of heroin was also recovered from the three accused. According to the officer, this is the largest seizure of heroin in the state this year, with a value of around Rs.2.4 crore in the international market. The accused were identified as Surajdeep Singh (19), Karnel Singh (35), and Gurmeet Singh (48), all three residents of Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh. Senior superintendent of police (STF) Navneet Singh Bhullar said: "Under the Drugs Free Devbhoomi campaign, our Kumaon unit along with SOG Champawat and Banbasa police station arrested three inter-state drug smugglers and recovered approximately 800 grams of heroin from them." "All three are residents of Lakhimpur Kheri district in Uttar Pradesh and have been involved in the drug trade for a long time. They have previously successfully transported large consignments of drugs to Uttarakhand, Nepal, Mumbai, and Goa," the SSP said....
