3 booked for assaulting journalist in dehradun
Dehradun, Feb. 8 -- Dehradun police have registered an FIR after three men on a scooter allegedly assaulted and threatened a journalist over his news reporting as he returned home from work on Friday evening, officers said.
The FIR, lodged at Dalanwala police station under sections 126(2) (wrongful restraint), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), and 351(3) (criminal intimidation) of the Bhar- atiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), followed a complaint from Bhatt, a journalist with Jai Bharat TV.
The journalist, Hem Bhatt, stated in his complaint that he was riding a motorcycle from his office on Convent Road in the Race Course area to his residence in Shanti Vihar on Haridwar Bypass Road when the three individuals overtook him. They stopped him, verbally abused him, assaulted him, and threatened him over his news reporting, he said.
Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said police promptly registered the FIR and launched an investigation.
"A police team has been formed to trace the individuals who attacked the complainant, and CCTV footage from the surrounding areas is being examined," he said.
He added that the accused would be identified soon and strict action would be taken against them.
