MEERUT, June 1 -- A 25-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her brother in Adampur village, under the Shahpur police station area of Muzaffarnagar district on Sunday, over her suspected relationship with a younger man. The accused, identified as Aamir, allegedly attacked his sister, Adeeba, with a sharp-edged weapon and slit her throat following a dispute over her relationship with a young man. According to police, the accused fled the scene immediately after the crime. Authorities have formed a special team to track him down and investigate whether any other family members were involved in the killing. Adeeba, daughter of village resident Shakeel Qureshi, had reportedly been living with relatives in nearby Palri village for the past one-and-a-half years. Family members brought her back home on Saturday evening. Police sources said that on Sunday afternoon, Adeeba was at home with her mother and brother when a discussion broke out regarding her alleged long-term relationship with a young man. Family members had reportedly been urging her to end the relationship, claiming it was bringing disrepute to the family. However, Adeeba allegedly remained firm in her decision and insisted on marrying the man. During the argument, Aamir allegedly lost his temper and attacked his sister with a sharp weapon, slitting her throat before escaping from the house. After receiving information about the incident, Shahpur police rushed to the village. Adeeba was immediately taken to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead. SP Rural Akshay Sanjay Mahadik also visited the crime scene along with local police officials to oversee the investigation. He interacted with family members and reviewed the circumstances leading up to the murder. Mahadik said the primary accused remains absconding and efforts are on to arrest him.
