24-year-old arrested in Haldwani for posing as IB officer, say police
Rudrapur, Sept. 14 -- Police have arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly posing as an Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer in Haldwani. He was found travelling in a car displaying a Government of India sign plate and fitted with red and blue lights on its roof, police said.
The arrest was made during routine checking at Tikonia Chauraha in Haldwani on Saturday evening, when police personnel noticed the suspicious vehicle.
"Police were checking for suspicious people and vehicles in the evening. Police personnel spotted a car bearing a sign plate of the Government of India. He was intercepted and found to be a fake intelligence officer," said Manoj Katyal, SP City, Nainital.
According to police, when the vehicle was stopped, the man claimed to be an Intelligence Bureau officer. Suspecting his credentials, police searched the car and recovered identity card and other documents purportedly belonging to Intelligence Bureau. The documents were found to be fake, police said.
An air gun resembling a pistol was also recovered from the vehicle. During questioning, the man allegedly admitted to posing as an intelligence officer to intimidate and dominate others, police said.
The accused was identified as Mohammad Mohabish, 24, a resident of Eidgah Colony under Rampur police station in Rampur district, Katyal said.
Police have registered a case against him. htc...
