Haldwani, Aug. 17 -- The search for a 17-year-old boy who was swept away while bathing in the Gaula River in Pantnagar, Udham Singh Nagar district, intensified on Sunday, with police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel and divers deployed to trace him, police said. The teenager, identified as Pawan Chauhan, a resident of TA Colony, remained missing more than 24 hours after the incident, police said. According to Pantnagar SHO Nandan Singh Rawat, Pawan had gone to Imli Ghat on the Gaula River at Shantipuri No. 4 around 10.30 am on Saturday with three friends for an outing. The group included Mayank Singh, 16, also a resident of TA Colony, Saurabh, 16, a resident of Phoolbagh Centre, and Himanshu, 17, a resident of Colony No. 5. The four boys travelled to the river on Mayank's scooter, police said. "The boys entered the river to bathe when Pawan was swept away by the strong current. The other three panicked and returned home without informing their families or the authorities," Rawat said. All four boys are students of classes 9 and 10 at New Himalayan Public School in Nagla. Police said they had attended the school's flag-hoisting ceremony together on Saturday morning before heading to the river. When Pawan did not return home for several hours, his family began searching for him....
