LUCKNOW, Oct. 28 -- Nearly 24 hours after a tanker carrying formalin overturned on Kisan Path near the Manpur-Bana underpass in Bakshi Ka Talab, relief operations were still underway on Tuesday, with authorities spreading soil on the affected stretch in an attempt to contain the chemical's impact. One lane of the highway and the adjoining service road remained closed behind barricades, while police personnel and ambulances were stationed at the site. People within a radius of around 500 metres continued to experience eye irritation, although the effects were reported to be less severe than on Monday evening. The tanker overturned around 7.30 pm on Monday while travelling from Sandila in Hardoi to a plywood factory in Gudamba. Officials had also called employees from the destination factory to understand how to reduce the chemical's impact. The continuing use of soil at the site formed part of the efforts to contain the spill. Rizwan Ahmad, who was taking labourers to a worksite on Monday night, said he developed eye irritation and felt nauseous while passing through the area. As his condition worsened, he returned home. With the chemical's effects persisting into Tuesday, the incident continued to disrupt traffic and raise concerns among people living and travelling near affected stretch....
