LUCKNOW, June 12 -- A 22-year-old woman, identified as Nilofar alias "Gitta," has been arrested by Lucknow Police for allegedly leading a burglary gang involved in a jewellery theft case. Police said Nilofar, who is named in 21 criminal cases, was arrested along with two associates, while a fourth accused remains absconding. Additional DCP (South) Vasanth Rallapalli said Nilofar was arrested along with Priyanshu alias Deepanshu, 20, and Aman, 22. Police allegedly recovered stolen gold and silver jewellery worth around Rs.6 lakh and a scooter used in the crime. The arrests were made in connection with a burglary at a jewellery shop in Kamalapur under Bijnor police station limits on the night of June 1-2. According to police, the accused allegedly broke open the shop shutter and decamped with ornaments and cash. Vasanth Rallapalli, additional DCP (South), said three police teams were formed to investigate the case. Officers examined 250 to 300 CCTV camera recordings from different locations and analysed electronic evidence to track the suspects. Police said the breakthrough came on Thursday when the trio was intercepted near the service road close to the Kisan Path underpass. Investigators alleged that the gang targeted locked shops and vacant houses after conducting reconnaissance. The accused allegedly identified premises that remained shut for long periods, broke or cut shutters to gain entry and later divided the stolen property at secluded locations. Police suspect the gang may be linked to other property crimes in the city and are examining their possible involvement in unsolved burglary cases.
