20-yr-old dies of electrocution while putting up Kanwar flag
PRAYAGRAJ, July 28 -- A 20-year-old man died of electrocution while allegedly trying to hoist a flag on a streetlight pole in Pratapgarh on Sunday night ahead of the start of the holy month of Sawan.
According to local residents, the incident took place around 11.30 pm when Shankar Gupta was hoisting a flag on a streetlight pole as part of preparations for the upcoming Kanwar Yatra. He allegedly came in contact with a live electric current passing through the pole and suffered a fatal electric shock.
People immediately rushed him to the medical college, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.
The youth's death sparked outrage among local traders and residents, who questioned how the streetlight pole had become electrified and demanded action against those responsible. They also called for a safety audit of public electrical infrastructure to prevent similar incidents.
Anticipating public anger, Dehat Kotwali station officer Pushpraj Singh reached the spot with a police force to maintain law and order....
