VARANASI, April 12 -- Two truck drivers died when two trucks caught fire after a head-on collision near a culvert on the Varanasi-Shaktinagar Road, under the Hathi Nala police station area, Sonbhadra, on Saturday, police said. Police said that eyewitnesses said that the two trucks collided and fire caught the cabins in which the drivers got trapped. Within moments, the fire intensified into a raging inferno, and both drivers were burned alive. Bystanders rushed to help, but due to the intensity of the fire, they were unable to reach the cabins. Within moments, both trucks were engulfed in flames. Upon receiving information, superintendent of police Abhishek Verma and additional superintendent of police Anil Kumar, and other officials arrived at the scene. Firefighting teams from Hindalco and UltraTech companies were also summoned to extinguish the blaze. After a strenuous effort, fire personnel managed to bring the fire under control; however, by that time, both drivers had already perished, said police. As a result of the accident, vehicular movement on the highway came to a complete standstill in both directions, causing significant inconvenience. Currently, the police have had both trucks removed and have restored the flow of traffic.
