2 men operating mule accounts for cyber crime proceeds held
Dehradun, Aug. 6 -- Two men allegedly involved in a gang operating "mule accounts" to channel proceeds of cybercrime in the state were arrested in Pithoragarh district, police said.
The accused were identified as Pawan Kumar (22) from Paunsa village in Berinag, Priyanshu Kumar( 22) from Jadapani in Pithoragarh's Kulakhet.
A third accused identified as Amandeep was absconding, said police, adding that the arrests followed complaints through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP). Berinag SHO Naresh Kumar Gangwar led the probe.
The probe identified two bank accounts allegedly being used as mules.
It unearthed suspicious transactions amounting to Rs.12.35 lakh in one account and Rs.1.04 crore in another.
The case was registered at Berinag police station under Sections 318(4) and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 66D of the Information Technology Act.
Police said Priyanshu Kumar was arrested near Ambedkar Park in Damuwadhunga and Pawan Kumar was arrested from his residence....
