KANPUR, July 21 -- Two men were burnt alive after the car they were travelling in crashed into a culvert and caught fire on the Kanpur-Auraiya highway in Kanpur Dehat district early on Monday, police said. The accident occurred near the Bhadpura turn in Mungisapur under the Derapur police station limits. Police said the speeding car had a CNG kit fitted in the vehicle, which also exploded, trapping the occupants inside. The victims were identified as Om Shukla, 22, a resident of Barra, and Gurpreet Singh, 35, of Mehrabani Singh Purwa locality. Both died at the scene after being unable to escape the burning vehicle. Residents alerted the police and fire department after seeing the car engulfed in flames. Firefighters extinguished the blaze after a prolonged operation, but the two men had already died.
