LUCKNOW, Sept. 13 -- The transport department on Saturday launched a special enforcement drive against passenger vehicles allegedly operating in violation of permit conditions on the Lucknow-Ayodhya and Ahimamau-Sultanpur routes. Officials said 17 vehicles were challaned and eight were impounded during checks conducted near Kamta-Chinhat crossing on the Lucknow-Ayodhya road and on the Ahimamau-Sultanpur route. Among the vehicles impounded were seven buses operating under All-UP contract carriage permits. According to the transport department, the buses were found carrying individual passengers on routes including Lucknow-Ayodhya-Gorakhpur and Lucknow-Ambedkar Nagar-Akbarpur routes, which officials said, was against the terms of their permits. A private Ertiga car was also impounded for allegedly being used for commercial purposes. The action was carried out under the directions of Lucknow RTO (enforcement) Prabhat Pandey.
