15-yr-old off-roading in Thar dead as SUV falls into ravine
Gurugram, Feb. 25 -- A 15-year-old boy died and two people were critically injured after a Mahindra Thar in which they were performing stunts in the Aravallis plunged into a 100-foot deep ravine in a Faridabad village on Tuesday, police said. The accident took place when the driver accidentally put the vehicle in reverse, police added.
The deceased was identified as Sohan Kumar, a Class 9 student from Siwan district in Bihar. The injured, Vikas Kumar, 20, and Hemant Kumar, 16, also from Siwan, are critical and being treated at a private hospital in Faridabad. All three lived in Balaji colony in Ballabgarh.
Yashpal Yadav, public relations officer of the Faridabad police, said Vikas's family had bought the vehicle a month ago. "Vikas took the two in his Thar and drove to Sirohi village. They drove it on the Aravallis, performing stunts while clicking pictures and videos just along the ravine on Tuesday afternoon," he said.
Investigators said Vikas accidentally put the vehicle in reverse while trying to drive forward, causing it to plunge into the ravine. Eyewitnesses pulled the three from the mangled car and rushed them to a hospital, where Sohan was declared dead.
A team from Dhauj police station later used a crane to recover the car. No FIR has been registered because the family has not alleged foul play or pressed charges....
