LUCKNOW, July 8 -- After 139 years as a boys-only institution, Aminabad Inter College on Tuesday admitted girls for the first time, opening its doors to girl students in Classes VI to XII and marking a historic shift in one of Lucknow's oldest civic-run schools. The college, established in 1887 and run by the LMC, enrolled seven girls on the opening day-four in Class VI and three in Class XI-a day after the municipal executive committee approved the move. The decision ends more than a century of the institution functioning without female students and is expected to benefit families in Aminabad and adjoining areas seeking affordable education for their daughters.
