139 years on, Aminabad Inter College opens doors to girls
LUCKNOW, July 8 -- After 139 years as a boys-only institution, Aminabad Inter College on Tuesday admitted girls for the first time, opening its doors to girl students in Classes VI to XII and marking a historic shift in one of Lucknow's oldest civic-run schools.
The college, established in 1887 and run by the LMC, enrolled seven girls on the opening day-four in Class VI and three in Class XI-a day after the municipal executive committee approved the move.
The decision ends more than a century of the institution functioning without female students and is expected to benefit families in Aminabad and adjoining areas seeking affordable education for their daughters.
Mayor Sushma Kharkwal visited the school to welcome the first batch of girl students and encouraged them to pursue their education with confidence. htc...
