PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 22 -- Rural residents will soon be able to organise weddings, family functions and other social events closer home, as the state government plans to construct Panchayat Utsav Bhavans equipped with guest-house-like facilities at affordable rates. A total of 25 Panchayat Utsav Bhavans are being developed across Prayagraj division, with Prayagraj district getting the highest number at 12. These facilities are intended to provide villagers with suitable venues for cultural, social and administrative events without having to travel to cities or hire expensive private marriage halls. Satish Kumar, deputy director, Panchayats, Prayagraj Division, said a budget of more than Rs 1.25 crore has been approved for each Utsav Bhavan. Of the 25 centres planned in the division, 12 will be constructed in Prayagraj district, six in Pratapgarh, five in Fatehpur and two in Kaushambi. The 12 centres in Prayagraj will be built at a total cost of more than Rs 18.75 crore and will cover the district's assembly constituencies. The directorate has approved the detailed project reports (DPRs) for the buildings, while files related to the tendering process have been forwarded to the district magistrate. Construction will begin after the tender process is completed. Each Panchayat Utsav Bhavan will have the capacity to accommodate around 100 people and will feature a stage or mandap, three rooms, a kitchen and toilets. The respective Gram Panchayats will be responsible for the allotment and management of the Utsav Bhavans.
