PRAYAGRAJ, Oct. 6 -- Replicas of all 12 Jyotirlingas will be among the major attractions at Magh Mela 2027, which will be organised at the Sangam in Prayagraj. The state government has approved the proposal and work is expected to begin shortly. The replicas of the 12 Jyotirlingas will be constructed at Shivalaya Park in the Arail area, close to the Sangam. A wellness and yoga centre will also be set up in Arail. The Mela administration is planning several new attractions this year. The fairgrounds will be decorated with thematic lighting, while selfie points based on mythological and religious symbols will also be developed at the Sangam, 12 bathing ghats and other prominent locations. Cultural evenings on the lines of those organised during the Kumbh and Mahakumbh will also be held. Mela officials are also exploring the possibility of organising a toy train ride, for the first time in mela history, in the Parade Ground area, where a gravity ride could also be introduced. Sand art installations will be developed along the banks of the Ganga and Yamuna. Officials have already held discussions with the heads of Fine Arts departments of Allahabad University and other colleges for the initiative. Moreover, the Magh Mela 2027 is proposed to be bigger than the 2026 edition. The fair area will increase from 844 hectares to 925 hectares, while the number of sectors is proposed to rise from seven to eight. Also, the total length of bathing ghats will be increased from 3.60 km to 4 km while the number of ghats is proposed to rise from 31 to 35. Parking facilities will also be expanded with the number of parking sites proposed to increase from 42 to 48, resulting in the total parking area increase from 250 hectares to 320 hectares. Vehicle parking capacity will increase from 1.30 lakh to more than 1.45 lakh vehicles. The number of traffic lanes is also proposed to be increased from one to two. Additional Mela Officer Vivek Shukla said the tendering process for works involving the PWD, Jal Nigam, Irrigation Department, Electricity Department, Health Department and Mela Authority is underway. Work will begin on full scale once the floodwaters recede and the ground is fit for mela preparations. Mela Officer Rishi Raj said preparations have already started to organise Magh Mela 2027 on a grand scale. The government has released around Rs 100 crore for the preparations, and a proposal seeking an additional amount (approximately the same) will soon be sent to the government.
