12 hrs of rain brings sharp drop in temp
Meerut, March 21 -- Meerut experienced a significant change in weather as nearly 12 hours of intermittent drizzle led to a sharp drop in temperature, bringing back a mild chill across the region.
The shift is attributed to an active western disturbance, the effects of which have been visible over the past two days with continuous light rainfall and cloudy skies.
The weather took a sudden turn on Thursday, and light rain continued into Friday morning and afternoon. Meteorologists stated the sky will remain overcast throughout the day, with chances of light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning.
The rainfall has caused a notable dip in temperatures, with a drop of up to 8 degrees Celsius recorded. According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature is expected to remain between 20 and 23 degrees Celsius, while the minimum may hover around 13 to 15 degrees Celsius.
High humidity levels are also contributing to the persistent cool conditions. Dr UP Shahi, a weather scientist at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology, said the western disturbance is likely to remain active for the next two to three days, resulting in similar weather patterns with intermittent rain spells.
He noted that while the rainfall could benefit crops like wheat, its overall impact remains mixed.
On the environmental front, the rainfall has brought some relief from pollution. The Air Quality Index (AQI) in Meerut was recorded at 97, placing it in the "satisfactory" category and indicating improved air quality in the city and surrounding districts.
The sudden dip in temperature has provided respite from the early onset of summer heat. However, the return of mild cold conditions has led residents to bring out warm clothing again, especially during early mornings and evenings....
