11.57 quintals of cannabis destroyed
PRAYAGRAJ, July 9 -- The Prayagraj Police Commissionerate destroyed 11.57 quintals of seized cannabis, valued at approximately Rs 5.78 crore, under a special drive named 'Operation Dahan'. The operation was jointly carried out by the Narcotics Task Force (NTF) and police teams from Soraon, Mauaima and Jhunsi police stations. The destruction process was conducted in compliance with court directives and the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, under the supervision of a high-level committee.
A married woman from the Sarai-Akil area of Kaushambi has alleged that she was subjected to dowry harassment, sexual assault and blackmail by her in-laws and a relative after her marriage. Following a complaint filed by the victim's father, Sarai-Akil police have registered a case and launched an investigation.
The complainant alleged that his daughter was repeatedly harassed for additional dowry. During this period, the husband's brother-in-law, identified as Manish Kumar of Raksrai, allegedly threatened the woman and sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions. He is also accused of taking objectionable photographs of the victim and later using them to extort money from her family.
A 26-year-old man was found hanging from a neem tree outside Chandpur Chaumri village in Pratapgarh district on Wednesday morning.
