Barmer/Jalore, July 1 -- Police in Jalore district have registered an FIR against 11 members of a caste panchayat for allegedly imposing a fine of Rs.21 lakh on a live-in couple and ordering the social boycott of their families, officers said on Tuesday. The 11 accused were identified as Latif Khan, Naine Khan, Matar Khan, Juse Khan, Sameer Khan, Shumar Khan, Shaukat Khan, Alam Khan, Yusuf Khan, Ismail Khan and Hinde Khan, they added. The FIR was registered on June 29, under The complaint by members of both families said the couple were voluntarily living together since November 1, 2025. The woman was earlier married as a child and obtained a divorce in 2024. It added that neither family objected to the decision to live together. The complaint alleged that both families were barred from religious places, ostracised by the community and even turned away from a relative's funeral. They alleged that the decision was taken at a meeting of the caste panchayat on April 20, nearly two months after the panchayat summoned and warned them that the couple could not continue to live together. They added that the panchayat members wielded great power in the community.
