Lucknow, June 2 -- The Lucknow Traffic Police launched a citywide enforcement drive against vehicles without High Security Registration Plates (HSRP), issuing 1,471 challans within hours of a month-long awareness campaign ending, on Monday. Raveena Tyagi, DCP, traffic herself took to the streets on the day. Following the conclusion of the awareness drive on May 31, intensive checking was carried out across major intersections and roads on June 1. Besides the 1,471 challans issued for HSRP-related violations, traffic police booked motorists for a range of other offences, taking the total number of challans issued during the drive to 5,021. Authorities also seized 152 vehicles, including 65 unauthorised commercial vehicles operating in the city. Other major violations detected during the drive included 1,320 cases of riding without a helmet, 530 instances of illegal parking, 170 cases of triple riding, 145 cases of wrong-side driving and 148 cases of driving without valid insurance. "Enforcement against HSRP violations and other traffic offences will continue as part of ongoing efforts to improve road discipline and strengthen compliance with traffic regulations," said the DCP....
