LUCKNOW, Feb. 7 -- Serious lapses, including alleged double house tax billing on a single property, illegal property mutation, a steep 20-fold hike in municipal shop rents and the absence of basic infrastructure for decades dominated the 'Sampoorna Samadhan Diwas' organised by the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) on Friday. A large number of residents attended the meeting, with tempers flaring over long-pending civic issues. One of the key complaints involved a retired municipal tax superintendent who is allegedly being charged house tax twice for the same house, resulting in two separate bills. Several complainants also flagged arbitrary hikes in municipal shop rents, stating that the sudden hike up to 20 times in some cases has pushed shopkeepers into financial distress. A major allegation of fraudulent house mutation surfaced from Purania area. Akash, a resident, accused his aunt of illegally getting his late father's house registered in her name by colluding with zonal officials. "Our house is registered in my father's name. After his death, we submitted all required documents, including the death certificate, to transfer it to my mother's name. Later, we found that my aunt had got the house mutated in her name using forged documents," he claimed, demanding an inquiry and strict action. Residents from Avadh Vihar Colony in Sarojini Nagar II ward raised strong objections over alleged waterlogging and absence of a proper road for nearly 20 years. The locals also raised slogans against the municipal corporation and the police administration. Mohammad Altmas, a student, said he fell on the damaged road while going to school, tearing his uniform. Another woman said poor road conditions have made it unsafe for children to attend school regularly. "Roads are being built in colonies where development started four years ago, but our colony has been ignored for two decades. Even the corporator does not listen to us," another resident Srishti alleged. Around 184 complaints related to property and water tax were received from various zones of the city. A total of 160 complaints related to property tax were registered. Additionally, 24 complaints related to water tax were also received....
