LUCKNOW, Sept. 27 -- Vein diseases are now emerging as a serious health concern worldwide with changes in lifestyle, obesity, indulgence in tobacco products, lack of exercise and stressful life as contributing factors. Some of the symptoms include leg pain and swelling in the initial stage and skin discoloration and venous ulcers in the advanced stage. These points were highlighted by Dr Brajesh Singh, senior consultant surgeon at the general hospital, SGPGI, on Friday. The event was organised by the division of surgery department of general hospital (SGPGI), in association with the Venous Association of India and the Association of Surgeons of India, UP Chapter. Prominent faculty members from across the country such as Dr Malay Patel, Dr Ajay Khanna, Dr Ravul Jindal, Dr Jayant Das, Dr Jitendra Kushwaha, Dr Yashpal Singh, Dr Ashutosh Pandey and others shared their views. Dr Brajesh said, "One should avoid prolonged sitting or standing...short walks in between are extremely beneficial." Prof Ankur Bhatnagar, deptartment of plastic surgery, SGPGI, who was organising secretary of the CME, said regular exercise - especially walking, cycling, and swimming - can help in preventing the disease....
