'Murdered' woman found alive at parental home
PRAYAGRAJ, May 2 -- An FIR alleging dowry murder and disposal of a body, registered on a court's direction in Kaushambi, has led to police finding the alleged victim is alive and staying at her parental home.
The case surfaced at the Sarai Akil police station after Asha Devi, a resident of Kanjapar Raksarawa, filed a petition alleging that her daughter, Preeti, had been subjected to harassment and violence by her in-laws over dowry demands.
Asha Devi claimed that on May 21, 2025, Preeti's husband Rahul Kumar, his mother Usha Devi, and friend Manish Kumar took her daughter out under the pretext of buying clothes, after which she went missing. Fearing her daughter had been murdered and her body disposed of, Asha Devi moved the court when police took no immediate action.
Acting on the court's directive, Sarai Akil police registered a case under sections related to dowry death.
However, preliminary investigation revealed that Preeti had not been murdered. Instead, she had voluntarily left her matrimonial home due to alleged harassment and was residing safely at her parental home.
DSP(Chail) Abhishek Singh confirmed that the woman is alive and staying at her parental home, and all parties have been summoned for questioning. He added that further action will be taken only after a fair, detailed, and impartial investigation to verify all claims....
