'More than 6K workers from UP safe in Israel'
LUCKNOW, March 2 -- Amidst the current tense situation in West Asia, the Yogi government is fully alert regarding the safety of 6,004 construction workers from Uttar Pradesh working in Israel. The state government has clarified that all workers are safe and their well-being is being continuously monitored.
All these workers have been working on various construction projects in Israel since 2024 after being selected through the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and the Israeli government organisation Population, Immigration and Border Authority (PIBA).
On the instructions of chief minister Yogi Adityanath, the labour and employment department is continuously reviewing the situation.
Approximately 42,000 Indian citizens, including 6,004 construction workers from Uttar Pradesh, currently reside in Israel.
The state government has clarified that in case of any emergency, immediate action will be taken and all possible assistance will be provided to the workers and their families.
According to the security advisory issued by the Indian Embassy in Tel Aviv, all Indian citizens have been advised to remain vigilant, follow the instructions of local authorities and avoid unnecessary movement.
MK Shanmuga Sundaram, principal secretary, labour and employment, spoke to JP Singh, Ambassador of India to Israel, over the phone. The ambassador told him that the situation is under control and the embassy is in touch with all Indian workers. Garika Tejeswar, First Secretary, also assured that safety shelters are available in most buildings and workers have been instructed to stay in safe places.
Anil Rajbhar, state labour and employment minister, assured workers and their families that the Uttar Pradesh government is fully committed to the safety of all workers.
The department is in constant contact with the NDSC and the Indian Embassy to ensure prompt action in case of any situation. Neha Prakash, director, employment, and PK Pundir, additional director, have also coordinated with the NSDC officials and directed them to continuously review the safety arrangements for workers.
