'mental health crisis among youths linked to relationship conflicts'
LUCKNOW, March 29 -- Concerns over a rising mental health crisis among young people were highlighted at a workshop organised by the Richmond Fellowship Society (India), Lucknow branch, where experts identified relationship conflicts as a major factor driving increasing cases of depression and suicide.
The workshop, held under the theme "Mental Health, Relationship Conflicts and Youth," highlighted how strained interpersonal relationships are increasingly affecting young people's emotional well-being, often leading to isolation and psychological distress.
Citing World Health Organization data, experts noted that one in seven people aged 15-30 suffers from a mental health disorder, often linked to academic stress and excessive social media exposure. In India, youth suicide rates have been rising by nearly 4% annually, according to National Crime Records Bureau data. Speakers said interpersonal conflicts, unstable homes, peer pressure and break-ups often lead to emotional withdrawal, with symptoms like poor sleep, loss of appetite and declining academic performance worsening mental health.
BJP MLA Rajeshwar Singh attended as chief guest and donated Rs.10 lakh to the society. Dinesh Dua, Senior Consultant Psychiatry was the guest of honour. A souvenir was released, and participants from Nav Uday Mansik Swasthya Sansthan presented a cultural programme.
