'Make road safety a people's movement'
LUCKNOW, June 12 -- The Uttar Pradesh transport commissioner Ashutosh Niranjan has appealed to village heads, bar associations, advocates and school managements across the state to actively support the government's road safety campaign and help reduce road accidents and fatalities through public awareness.
The appeal comes even as the transport department continues strict enforcement against traffic violations.
While punitive action is being taken against offenders, the department is also focusing on creating awareness at the community level.
In letters sent to Gram Pradhans, Niranjan urged them to encourage villagers to wear helmets, use seat belts and comply with traffic regulations.
Similar letters have been sent to the Uttar Pradesh Bar Association and district advocates' bodies.
The transport commissioner has also written to school managements and principals across the state, seeking their cooperation in spreading road safety awareness among students and parents. htc...
