'Hooch tragedy': Police probe liquor, poison angles behind 4 deaths
PATNA, Sept. 1 -- Police investigation into the death of four people during a 'liquor party' has intensified.
The fifth glass found from the scene has given a new turn to the investigation, with police now looking for the fifth person who was said to be present the spot at the time of the incident.
According to police, the fifth person did not consume alcohol, but they found alcohol in the fifth glass.
Doctors have an apprehension that they might have consumed a poisonous substance. However, whether the poison was in alcohol or in food, will be determined after FSL examination.
Senior medical officer of Barh sub-divisional hospital Dr Ajay Kumar said that the viscera of the dead has been preserved. It will be sent for testing.
"The FSL report will make it clear what kind of toxic substance caused the death and whether that substance was in food or alcohol," he said.
However, agriculture minister Vijay Kumar Sinha met the victim's relatives, assured help and expressed grief over the incident. "The case is under investigation. Strict action will be taken against those found guilty," he added.
Barh SHO Braj Kishore Singh said that it has come to light that not four, but five people were present during the liquor party.
An extra glass full of liquor has been found at the spot. "Police are now looking for the fifth person. After his interrogation, a lot of important details regarding the incident are expected to come to light. Police are trying to find out where the liquor and food at the party came from and whether it was adulterated. Fish, bread and a bottle of liquor was recovered from the spot," he said. Police said that the exact cause of death will be ascertained only after the post-mortem and FSL report is received.
The incident took place in Bedhna village under Patna's Barh police station. The victims-- Pankaj Kumar, Nishu Kumar, Vikas Kumar and Shashi Kumar-- were all masons....
