New Delhi, May 20 -- Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday criticised Rahul Gandhi after the leader of the opposition accused the Centre of inaction and favouring tycoons in the face of an impending "economic storm". In a sharp rebuttal, Sitharaman, accused the Congress of obstructing nation-building and fear-mongering. "If Congress and its leaders cannot contribute positively to nation-building, they should stop being obstructionists. A responsible opposition does not engage in fear mongering," she posted on X. The finance minister listed a series of Centre's welfare schemes to question the Congress about who actually benefited. "Let me ask: Are 58 crs JanDhan A/cs for Adani/Ambani?" she asked, while also mentioning schemes like the G RAM G Act, e-Shram Cards, PM Vishwakarma Yojana, PM Internship scheme, among others. She said the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has focused on the welfare of common people since 2014. "Since 2014 we continue to serve every sector and every section of our society through our policies and initiatives. Farmers, the poor, women, youth, MSMEs are at the core of our governance structure."
