'Ditch party plans for the badminton court'
India, July 5 -- On World Badminton Day today, actor Mahima Makwana opens up about discovering a new love for the sport, which she picked up just a month ago but already enjoys enough to recommend over weekend party plans.
Makwana says badminton became part of her routine while taking on the 75 Hard fitness challenge, which required two workouts every day. Looking for a more engaging second session than the gym, she turned to the sport.
"I wanted my second workout to be something I genuinely enjoyed. Everybody is going gaga over padel and pickleball, but I wanted to go back to the OG sport," she says.
Though she never had the chance to pursue sports seriously while growing up because she started working at a young age, badminton always reminded her of childhood. "It was one of those sports you'd see being played everywhere, even in your neighbourhood. I always wanted to try it," the 26-year-old shares.
Being new to the game has also prompted Makwana to follow Indian badminton more closely. While she calls herself "a newbie", watching players like Chirag Shetty, along with icons PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal, has deepened her appreciation for the sport.
The actor says that she will happily like to do a sports film. "I'd love to play a badminton player. Sports make you mentally strong. They teach you to handle defeat and failure without taking them too personally. They also demand discipline," Makwana adds.
Her message to youngsters is simple: "Let's ditch weekend party plans for the badminton court. Playing a sport helps you build a community. Just play and have fun."...
