LUCKNOW, Sept. 16 -- Affordable medicines remain a challenge in India and innovation is needed to ensure inexpensive drugs reach the last person, said Prof Shubhini A Saraf, director, National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) Rae Bareli, at Amity University on Tuesday. She was the chief guest at the inaugural session of the two-day international conference on "Next-Generation Therapeutics: Integrating Nanotechnology with Advanced Drug Discovery Platforms" at the Amity Institute of Pharmacy, Amity University. "In India, where drug affordability is also a challenge, we need to cater to the masses, to the person standing last. This will only happen when inexpensive medicines are available," she said, adding that effective drug delivery systems could transform healthcare. Saraf discussed challenges in translating laboratory discoveries into clinically successful therapies and spoke about emerging areas such as drug synthesis.
