'84 agencies served notices, Gomti Nagar gas agency suspended'
Lucknow, April 7 -- The Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has issued show cause notices to 84 LPG distribution agencies for alleged irregularities in service and distribution. Among those penalised, a gas agency based in Gomti Nagar was suspended on Sunday with immediate effect, Sanjay Bhandari, executive director and Head of UP, said.
Addressing media persons on Monday, Bhandari said that the action comes as part of a week-long crackdown initiated by IOC to address growing consumer complaints regarding non-delivery of LPG cylinders and other malpractices. This has led to seizure of 12,330 LPG cylinders, filing of 245 FIRs and ensuring 22 arrests.
The state currently operates 13,168 fuel retail outlets - including 12,331 run by oil marketing companies and 863 by private players - supported by 28 supply depots, he said, adding that on an average, UP is receiving 1.6 crore litres of petrol and 3 crore litres of diesel daily.
Authorities confirmed that existing reserves are sufficient with 18 days of petrol stock and 16 days of diesel stock besides 5 to six days of stocks with petrol dealers.
The state's LPG distribution network, comprising 4,143 distributors and 36 bottling plants, serves nearly 4.88 crore consumers. Around 8.7 lakh refills are being delivered daily and a backlog of about 4.5 days is being cleared systematically, he said. Following government of India guidelines, a 68% allocation level is being maintained. htc...
