Terrorist killed in night-long operation in Ganderbal
Srinagar, April 2 -- An unidentified terrorist was killed in the forests of Ganderbal during a joint operation of Army and the Police.
The army late last night launched an operation in the Arahama forests in Ganderbal district. The search and cordon operation continued throughout the night.
The army confirmed the killing of one unidentified terrorist and said the operation is still in progress.
Army's Chinar Corps said the operation was launched after the Army received specific information about militant presence in Arhama forests.
"Based on specific intelligence input, joint search operation was launched by #IndianArmy and @JmuKmrPolice in Gen area Arahama of Ganderbal. During the search, vigilant troops observed suspicious activity. On being challenged, terrorists opened fire and their own troops retaliated," Army Chinar Corps wrote on X.
Army further said that the cordon was tactically reorganised amidst the intermittent firing underway. "Own troops effectively retaliated with a calibrated response resulting in one terrorist eliminated."
Police said the operation is still underway and identity of the militant killed in the operation is being ascertained. The forest where the encounter took place is a trek leading to Bandipora and Ganderbal districts. In the past militants have often used these forests for hiding or crossing into the neighbouring districts. The Army has not clarified whether the only one militant was present in the area or there were more militants in the forests. Officials, however, said that the search operation is still underway. htc...
