Shimla's AG Chowk-Vidhan Sabha road closed for a month
Shimla, May 17 -- The district administration has announced the complete closure of the road stretch from Accountant General (AG) Chowk to Vidhan Sabha for all vehicular traffic from May 19 to June 18.
The month-long closure is required to facilitate underground utility duct construction.
Shimla district magistrate Anupam Kashyap issued the order following a request from the Himachal Pradesh public works department and clearance from the Shimla police.
The ongoing project aims to shift electric wires, water lines, and utility cables into an underground duct network spanning Chotta Shimla to Willies Park, Secretariat via Lok Bhavan to Oak Over, and from Sher-e-Punjab through Lower Bazaar to the Chief Telegraph Office.
The current closure is specifically required for excavation and construction work between Oak Over and Marina Chowk. Officials said the restriction is necessary for public safety and the efficient execution of the project.
The administration has advised residents, commuters, and tourists to plan their travel in advance and cooperate with traffic police to minimise congestion....
