Rain, snow lash J&K
Srinagar, March 20 -- Rains continued to lash plains while snowfall in higher reaches on Thursday plunged down mercury across Jammu and Kashmir.
"In the past 24 hours, light to moderate rain and snow was experienced at most places. Baramulla recorded 29.5 mm rain (till 8.30 am), Poonch 29 mm, Batote 25.5 mm and Pahlgam 20.6 mm," said an official of the meteorological centre in J&K.
The ski resort of Gulmarg recorded 23-cm snowfall. The MeT has predicted cloudy weather for Friday as well with intermittent light to moderate rain and snow at most places. "Few higher reaches of Chenab valley & South Kashmir may receive moderate to heavy snowfall," an update by MeT said.
There is also possibility of heavy rain or snow over higher reaches at few places with gusty winds (40-50 km per hour) at a few places during the night with possibility of hailstorms at isolated places.
March 21-25 is expected to be generally dry with a brief spell of rain/snow at few places on March 23. "March 26-28 will be generally cloudy with light rain or snow (higher reaches) at a few places while March 29-31 can witness another spell of rain/snow at many places," the update said.
The rains and snowfall have brought down the day temperatures across the region. Srinagar in central Kashmir recorded a maximum of 9.5deg Celsius on Thursday (against a normal of 16deg) and a minimum of 5.8degC on the previous intervening night....
