Srinagar, Aug. 12 -- Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested a man for allegedly trying to frame the husband of his former girlfriend in a drug case by sending a narcotics consignment to his home in Ganderbal district, officials said on Tuesday. The accused, Tariq Ahmad Sofi of Zainakot, Srinagar, has been booked under relevant sections of NDPS, they added. On August 8, Safapora police station received credible information regarding a suspicious parcel dispatched from outside UT and addressed to a resident of Safapora. The parcel was intercepted at Safapora post office and opened as per procedure in the presence of the executive magistrate, FSL and Crime teams along with sniffer dog squad. The suspected contraband was seized and samples forwarded for confirmatory analysis which confirmed it as approximately 4 kg cocaine-mixed powder, 80 grams charas and psychotropic tablets," said police spokesman adding that during investigation, it emerged that the consignment had been arranged as part of a conspiracy to implicate the addressee in a false drug case. Police said the investigation revealed the involvement of his wife's former partner, who allegedly arranged the consignment through a contact based outside UT. "The accused was apprehended and further investigation is underway to establish the complete network, source of the narcotics and the role of other persons involved. Further arrests and disclosures are expected," the spokesman said....
