Ludhiana man hurt Bilaspur axe attack
Dharamshala, July 9 -- A Ludhiana resident was critically injured after he was brutally attacked with an axe by unidentified persons on the Kiratpur-Ner Chowk four-lane in Bilaspur district on Wednesday, police said.
The incident occurred at around 10am. The victim has been identified as Sunny Gill (34), a resident of Ludhiana. He was rushed to AIIMS Bilaspur for treatment, where he is currently undergoing medical care, officials said.
A purported video of the incident showed that the victim was targeted by the assailants following an altercation, even as two persons in police uniform were present. The exact cause of the altercation remains unclear. Gill is accused of shooting a young man near the Bilaspur city court complex in 2024. The victim had suffered injuries in that incident.
The officials said that the Wednesday incident was being investigated from all angles, including past disputes and personal enmity.
Bilaspur superintendent of police Abhishek Dhiman said that an impartial investigation covering all aspects of the incident is underway and strict legal action will be taken against the perpetrators.
"Special police teams have been constituted to arrest the accused, and an extensive search operation is underway. The police are also analysing CCTV footage from the surrounding areas and examining other technical evidence," police said.
An FIR has been registered at Bilaspur Sadar police station under Sections 126(2), 115(2), 352, 351(2), and 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
