Srinagar, July 10 -- Awami Itihaad Party (AIP) senior leader and Langate MLA Sheikh Khursheed on Wednesday expressed serious concern over continued restrictions on the movement of tourists-both local and non-local-into the scenic Gurez valley. During a visit to remote villages, including Shahpora, Achoora, Dawar, Wanpora and Kanzalwan, Khursheed said it was unfortunate that despite Gurez already suffering economic losses due to harsh winter and poor connectivity, the administration was now further stifling livelihoods by restricting tourism. "Tourism is the only hope for hundreds of families here. Denying them even this is unjustified," he said. Criticising the government's contradictory approach, he pointed out that while high-level meetings are held in Srinagar to boost tourism, access to local destinations like Gurez was being silently throttled.
