Srinagar, July 1 -- The hot weather persisted in Kashmir on Tuesday with relief expected from Wednesday. The J&K meteorological centre said that Srinagar recorded a maximum of 35.2 degree Celsius, some 5.6 degrees above normal. Kupwara, in North Kashmir, recorded the highest of 35.4 degree Celsius while the ski resort of Gul arg witnessed 26 degree Celsius. However, by the evening, the sky became overcast with clouds and MeT predicted rains in Pir Panjal, south and central Kashmir. The MeT update said that there is possibility of light rain/thunder at many places during the night and next morning. "Pre-monsoon showers in the plains of Jammu and adjoining areas mainly towards late night/morning hours during next 24-48 hrs," it said. A few spells of light to moderate rain/thundershower at many places with heavy rainfall, thunder and gusty winds expected at few places during July 2-4. "Possibility of heavy rainfall/brief intense heavy showers may generate flashfloods & landslides/mudslides at few places of Jammu division and adjoining South Kashmir," it said.
