HP medic on WHO oversight panel on neglected tropical diseases
Shimla, April 17 -- Padma Shree awardee and global expert on rabies, Dr Omesh Bharti, has been nominated by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as a member of the oversight committee of the Strategic TechnicalAdvisory Group (STAG) working on monitoring, evaluation, and research in the WHO Malaria and neglected tropical diseases (NTD) Department.
According to a communique from the World Health Organisation Malaria and NTD department, Dr Bharti was prominently included as an independent expert on neglected zoonotic diseases in the 18-membered Oversight Committee for the mid-term evaluation of the department.
The mid-term evaluation is focused on assessing the progress toward the NTD road map 2021-2030 and whether it is on track to deliver meaningful results by 2030.
Dr Bharti is already on the National Task Force as well as WHO panel of experts on rabies and snakebite envenoming.
Currently posted as deputy director with the National Health Mission in Shimla, he was awarded the Padma Shree in 2019.htc...
