Shimla, Oct. 11 -- The Himachal Pradesh government has placed Dr Priyanka Sharma, medical officer (obstetrics and gynaecology) at Regional Hospital, Una, under suspension with immediate effect following the death of 33-year-old Reena Devi at the hospital on October 9, 2026. Reena Devi, wife of Rajeev Kumar hailing from Una district, was admitted to the hospital on October 7 for delivery. An inquiry committee was constituted by the medical superintendent of Regional Hospital, Una, under the chairmanship of senior medical officer Dr Vikas Chauhan to investigate the incident and submit its report within three days. According to the report, Dr Sharma was reportedly absent from duty and unavailable for the preliminary inquiry, with both her mobile numbers switched off. In view of the seriousness of the incident and her non-availability for the inquiry, the state government ordered her suspension under Rule 10 of the Central Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1965, pending further proceedings.
