Shimla, Sept. 4 -- Himachal Pradesh assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania on Thursday approved the provision of a "distinct flag" for the official vehicles of all MLAs, a decision aimed at giving legislators a separate identity. Speaking to the media after the conclusion of the monsoon session, Pathania said the decision to introduce the flags had been taken during the 13th Legislative Assembly but could not be implemented then. He has now approved its implementation. Following the assembly's approval, flag rods similar to those used on the vehicles of the chief secretary and additional chief secretary will be installed on MLAs' vehicles. The move follows demands from MLAs for a separate form of identification after the Supreme Court's 2013 ruling against the use of red beacons.
